What are Mouth Grills?
You may have heard the phrase "Get out of my grill,"
or "I will punch you in your grill" from time to time,
and may have wondered exactly what the word grill meant in that
context. Most people think the word refers to someone's face. And
it does, somewhat, although it really refers to a specific part
of the face (the mouth). The term grill in this case comes from
the popular accessory piece called a mouth grill. But what exactly
is a mouth grill? A mouth grill is a dental piece worn over the
teeth. It is made from making an imprinted mold of the top teeth
(in some cases the bottom teeth as well), and then it is custom
fitted and designed to the wearer's liking. Most grills are made
of gold, silver, or platinum, and some are even adorned with small
jewels or rhinestones. The grill is easily removed by just taking
it off the teeth, and it shouldn't be worn when eating or sleeping.
Since mouth grills are usually custom fitted, it's important to
buy them from a reputable source. There are plenty of websites available
where you can buy a grill online. In addition, there are a lot of
outlet stores located all over the country where shoppers can walk
in, get their dental implants, place their order custom, and get
a brand new grill within a matter of hours. This method is a little
more time consuming but it guarantees that you will get a grill
to your liking and will fit your mouth properly. When you wear the
mouth grill, you want it to be as comfortable as possible and not
irritating to your teeth or gums.
While a mouth grill is great for show and to make a fashion statement,
it is also important to remember that it is going into your mouth,
which is a very sensitive area. Unlike gold teeth which are applied
directly and around the tooth, grills are usually "snap on",
which means they leave space for bacteria and infection to gather
in between the grill itself and the gums and teeth. If you wear
a grill, try to only wear it when out and about, and not on a regular
basis. Also, clean the grill as much as possible, rinsing it in
a peroxide wash or some other anti-bacterial cleaner. This will
assure that it is clean and free from germs, and can help you to
avoid painful and sometimes dangerous infections. Some mouth grills
can be attached permanently, but make sure if you go this route
that they are attached securely and sealed properly around the teeth.
Mouth grills are quickly becoming a real status symbol, particularly
in the hip hop community. The material that your grill is made out
of often shows what status you're trying to portray. If you want
a nice grill, try to buy one made of legitimate material such as
real gold or platinum. Not only will fake materials look cheaper,
but they're more prone to infection. There are some common nicknames
for grills such as chops, pullouts, slugs, caps, or shines. A lot
of famous hip hop and rap artists now wear them. There are even
songs written about grills, like famous rapper Nelly's hit rap called
"Grillz" that was released in 2005. A mouth grill is a
great way to show off, and is a real status symbol. Whether you
choose a permanent or removable grill, gold or silver, diamonds
or no diamonds, your grill can say a lot about you and it makes
a really bold fashion accessory.
